I appreciate your endeavour in switching out of S mode in Windows ten. I will guide yous in the right direction to go rid of the upshot
i. Are you running whatever third party security software on your device?
Try the below suggested steps to fix the issue.
Method one: Unplug all external devices connected to estimator
I suggest y'all to unplug all the external devices except Mouse and keyboard and then try to switch out of S mode.
You may also refer the article ' Switching out of Southward mode in Windows ten ' for more information
Method 2: Store app troubleshooter

Click on Commencement, type in Troubleshoot.
-
Select Windows Shop Apps and Run the troubleshooter.
Method 3: Reset Windows Update Components
Refer the article How to reset Windows Update components manually .
Method 4: Put your computer in 'Clean boot' and then endeavour to Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro
Note: A 'clean boot' starts Windows with a minimal ready of drivers and startup programs, so that you can make up one's mind whether a background program is interfering with your game or programme.
Your figurer may temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean kick environment, however, that functionality will return when you lot reset the computer to first normally after you have finished your troubleshooting.
You may refer the article on how to perform a clean kick in Windows .
Refer the section How to make up one's mind what is causing the problem afterward you practise a make clean kicking , if your device is working fine in clean kick.
Also refer the section Reset the estimator to start ordinarily after make clean kicking troubleshooting .
Method v: Disable antivirus
Note : If you have Windows 10, you'll get the latest antivirus protection with Windows Defender. When you start up Windows 10 for the first time, Windows Defender is on and actively helping to protect your PC by scanning for malware (malicious software), viruses, and security threats. Windows Defender uses existent-time protection to scan everything you download or run on your PC. Windows Update downloads updates for Windows Defender automatically to help keep your PC rubber and protect it from threats.
Refer the commodity Turn off antivirus protection Windows security and then try upgrading to Windows 10 Pro from Southward mode.
Y'all may as well refer the commodity Set problems switching modes in Microsoft store and check if information technology helps.

Surface get 8gb straight out of the box - same issue. Tried all windows and windows store updates, linking admin account to MS account, lots of reboots, nothing worked.
Found this thread... tried all of the in a higher place except for three (not possible in Due south manner equally far as I tin tell....) and iv (only drivers shipping with device were in startup.. e.g. Intel and Atheros).
Zero helped - issue remains.
Given how many threads there are going back several months, this is a structural issue that needs to exist addressed urgently. Only reason I bought this auto rather than a another tablet was to exist able to run full windows apps.. without that, this matter is less useful to me than an iPad, Pixelbook or Galaxy Tab.

I bought a make new Surface Laptop today, exact same issue. Unable to leave of S mode...what a consummate joke. Gear up this ASAP please.

I bought Microsoft surface book on thanksgiving. And same issue. Cannot switch out of South mode. Tried multiple times...and nothing on this page seems to help. And haven't installed annihilation else on the figurer. This mistake is direct out of the box. This is 2018 for God sake....For once, I wasted $1000 on Microsoft book instead of MacBook and WORST determination I could have made.....cannot observe a solution in any of the forms...this is a problem with the factory settings...

ii.5 days, numerous restarts, re-loads, fresh starts, local business relationship creation, ISO install attempts and goose egg. Notwithstanding stuck in S fashion. Even with Level 2 support nothing got fixed. Each of the 4 dissimilar techs I dealt with stated it was a know outcome and that no directives had been issued how to resolve it. I'yard dumbfounded. My laptop is essentially a useless brick without being able to load programs outside of the meager shop.

I tried this again today (afterward not working yesterday), and information technology worked today. Maybe they've fixed the bug.

Retried again yesterday and it worked for me too. Non sure if this was a separate set, or tied to the big authentication trainwreck over the last little while... but glad information technology works.

Make sure you install ALL the latest Windows & Store updates earlier trying to switch from S style.
In my case, I got the "Unable to switch out of Windows 10 Southward mode" error bulletin because I oasis't updated Store (it may sound a little mind-angle, just you update MS Store app from within Store).
